Jomo W. Mutegi, Ph.D.

Jomo W. Mutegi, Ph.D. is Principal Investigator of the (ES)2 STEM Learning Lab and Associate Professor of Science Education at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). Dr. Mutegi is an active member of the National Association of Research in Science Teaching (where he currently serves on the Board of Directors), the American Educational Research Association (AERA), and the Institute for the Study of the African American Child (iSAAC).

His research has been published in the Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Science Education, and the Journal of Women and Minorities in Science and Engineering. He has served as co-editor of a special issue on hip-hop based pedagogy, and is currently editing a special issue on reparations for the journal, African American Learners.
He received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry and Biology from Gannon University; his Doctorate in Science Education from Florida State University; and completed postdoctoral studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Mutegi is guided by the counsel of Dr. Amos Wilson who reminds us that, “The function of education is to secure the survival of a people.”
